Kim and Mark Vardy

Founders

Kim and Mark Vardy met in May of 1999 in Rockford, Illinois, a small town outside of Chicago. Kim was a school teacher and softball coach preparing to move to Austin, Texas to be closer to family, while Mark was finishing chiropractic school in Davenport, Iowa. By December of that same year, they were planning a life together-and a move to Wendell, North Carolina.

Kim never planned to start a business. A former Division I pitcher at Northern Illinois, she moved to Wendell with her fiancé, Mark, as he began building what is now Vardy HPC. At the time, she was teaching and coaching, focused on family and education.

When a local parent asked Kim to give pitching lessons, she hesitated-but eventually agreed. One lesson quickly turned into many, and soon she was training athletes out of her backyard, even installing lights to keep up with demand.

A few years later, Mark fulfilled a lifelong goal by launching a small fitness space inside his Wendell practice, which later became a CrossFit affiliate. As their family grew, so did their vision. With three active kids, they recognized the need for a place where athletes could develop not just skills, but strength, nutrition, and overall health.

After years of growth-backyard lessons, local training spaces, and expanding chiropractic offices-their dream became reality. In 2015, The Athletic Zone was born-and the local community would forever be impacted.

Today, the Vardys operate three chiropractic offices, a CrossFit gym, and a 30,000-square-foot training facility-built on a simple mission: to help athletes stay healthy, train well, and reach their full potential.
